Reducing facility use of restraints is a challenge for healthcare providers and managers alike. Posey's continuing education programs can show you how to properly use and reduce restraints in your facility, while still keeping your patients and residents safe from harm. Topics include:

Clarification of restraint use in clinical protocols
Assessment requirements
Alternatives to restraint use
Application and removal competency
Safety guidelines
The “one-hour” rule
Medical/surgical vs. behavioral use
JCAHO and Federal Standards

Posey's facilitated seminar, “Train the Trainer: Developing a Successful Fall Management Program” can be arranged with your Posey District Manager by calling 1-800-44-POSEY. This program is available in 1-hour and 3-hour formats (available for C.E. Credit), and can be taught at a location near you.

Two self-study programs are available: “Restraint and Seclusion: Catching the JCAHO Spirit” (catalog #8514) provides valuable information on managing restraint and seclusion to comply with JCAHO and Federal standards. The complete program includes a video, workbook, and post-test, and earns one hour of continuing education credit upon completion.

Also available is the two-part video series, “Restraints and Restraint Alternatives” (catalog #8503). This program examines restraint use under OBRA guidelines in long-term care settings, and emphasizes precautions for safe use. Programs can be purchased by calling the Posey Customer Service department, and are available for a no-risk 30-day evaluation.
