For 2009, the Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goals address reducing the risk of injury resulting from falls.

This means that as a Joint Commission accredited health care organization you are expected to implement a fall reduction program to not only limit the number of falls but also to minimize injury resulting from falls.

HBSW Entrapment Zones
FDA/HBSW Guidance (link)

Published FDA guidelines* identify seven (7) entrapment zones as posing a possible risk of patient injury. The FDA has established a measuring protocol and pass/fail criteria for zones 1 through 4 in their guidelines. As of the date of this publication, the FDA has yet to publish pass/fail criteria for zones 5 through 7.
